What's the policy on man pages? Are we going to provide these?

comment:2 by emitrax, 16 years ago

I think we should. It definitely won't harm anyone, and it'll make people coming from linux more confortable. :)

Anyone against it? has anyone tried man tes.ximian.com/~flucifredi/man/ on haiku?

groff and man are both available from HaikuPorts. I've been using them for a while without problem. I would consider working on a patch but I'm unsure where the man pages are supposed to live when they belong to software in /boot/system. I'm also unsure if coreutils will eventually be outsourced to HaikuPorts, which would also fix the problem.

Pushing this one out as it's not an R1 requirement. We have added groff and man as optionalpackages, and many of the optional packages have man files. But man files for coreutils, and others probably won't get added until after those are exported to optionalpackages. So leaving this ticet open until those are taken care of, but lowering the priority of this ticket.

With package management we will be able to more easily include the documentation files inside of the .hpkg files, so this issue should go away when we switch over.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
