VIA EPIA-M with LCD screen loses video at end of boot

Description

I have a Via EPIA-M that has an Via VT8623 (Apollo CLE266) Chipset for the video. It has a 1 GHz C3 Nehemiah and 1 GB of RAM.

When Haiku boots, I see the progress of the boot icons, then the screen goes black. I think that might mean it has been set to an unsupported resolution. After a few seconds the config message disappears and then the screen just stays black.

I tried several of the safe video modes. Standard VGA ended up with a screen that was mostly black, but with some small white bars right at the top of the screen. All the other video modes were totally black.

I test on Haiku r

Since Axel now has the Nimble V5 with CLE266 chipset (I sent it to him some time ago) I can nolonger test this driver. I stopped development on this one. Reassigning to him..

Bye!

Rudolf.

The VIA driver is not finished, and it's not surprising that this doesn't work - that's why it's not part of the image.

Unfortunately, the Nimble V5 is pretty much a PITA, and does neither support network boot, nor anything else - you always have to remove the hard drive, update it from another system, and build it back in. I've pretty much given up on it, therefore.

I recently installed Haiku Alpha 3 on a very similar board (Via EPIA-M 1.2Ghz C3 Nehemiah) which also has an Via VT8623 (Apollo CLE266) video card. The computer booted properly without messing with any safe mode settings. It only displays up to 1280x1024 resolution but that may be a limitation of the hardware. So this bug may indeed be fixed.

I just noticed that Haiku Alpha 3 is using the VESA driver for this card. Is there a better driver available?

I just got 3 http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2019#sp That have that video chip. Everything work with alpha 3(network, USB, sound) but it is in VESA, would be nice to have a driver for it as at 800Mhz i can find lot of use for those small PC.
