#19152 new bug

Twitcher incorrectly shows a Terminal open

Reported by: MichaelPeppers Owned by: jscipione
Priority: normal Milestone: Unscheduled
Component: Applications/Deskbar Version: R1/beta5
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: All

Description

Hello, I just noticed in the Haiku install I'm currently running the Twitcher is showing a Terminal window after all opened programs. This entry's icon changes randomly and selecting it does nothing.

At first it had the Chat-O-Matic icon, then a blank, then I killed an sshd process thinking it may have caused it and that turned the icon into ArtPaint's one when unselected and ECWolf's one while selected.

Maybe related to temporary data? I'll let you know if the issue persists after a reboot

The issue is gone after a reboot, I have no clue what caused it, I tried reopening a bunch of the programs I used in the last session to reproduce it but nothing

It happened again, I'm attaching a new screenshot and the current syslog.

In the situation you can see in the screenshot I cannot seem to select the open window Terminal via Twitcher

(On nightly hrev58291 x86_64 currently)

For what it's worth it seems I can reproduce it semi-reliably if I use Haiku for a good period of time (For sure in about 1h but probably it's there earlier than that and I don't use Ctrl+Tab enough to notice)

I often use Falkon, other browsers and compile code on Haiku which are all things that run multiple window-less processes and I'm beginning to suspect that might be related, I'm especially suspicious of Falkon but tbh I don't have the knowledge to back this up in any way.

When this happens again:

  • Check the listed applications in TeamMonitor (ctrl-alt-del)
  • Check the output of ps in terminal

If there is a suspicious process there, and you can identify who it comes from try asking it to quit or kill it. Afterwards check if the entry is still there.

Post ps outputs from before and after killing the offending process.

Hope this helps you narrow it down...

Ok, tried looking at the processes running and I killed a bunch of them, namely bash+Terminal, Telegram and LnLauncher, and the issue persisted, I didn't want to kill sshd and dbus-daemon in case doing that would've made the system unstable. Killing Deskbar fixed the issue but tbh I should've tried at least killing "mozc_server" as well. Oh well, I'm going to be more thorough with it next time and report back.

It occurred again on hrev58340 x86_64, kind of... this time instead of "Terminal" the Twitcher shows a non-existing "Nightly" entry (from the experimental Firefox package taken from the LOTE repo). This time I killed all non-system components from Team monitor but the problem persists.
