CD Player won't stop playing audio cd

I have a Dell Latitude D600 that has AC97 audio and a plain old cd drive. When I put an audio CD in and load CD Player I am able to play the CD as well as move back and forth between tracks.

The problem happens when I press the stop button. The CD Player pauses the song for about .5 seconds and then resumes playing. Even when I exit the CD Player it continues to play.

If I click the eject button and the cd is ejected it stops playing. That is the only way I have been able to find to stop the playback other than a reboot or killing media_server.
