#4522 new bug

Haiku boots slowly when eSATA is connected

Reported by: shinta Owned by: marcusoverhagen
Priority: normal Milestone: R1
Component: Drivers/Disk/ATA Version: R1/alpha1
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking: #4535
Platform: All

Description

When I connect HDD to eSATA port, I waited 2 minutes after 4th splash icon on Haiku booting. If eSATA is disconnected, Haiku boots fast. eSATA isn't boot drive.

Safe mode screen debug shows the follow error message many times:
ata 2 error: device selection timeout
ata 2-1 error: failed to send transfer request

Additionally, Haiku doesn't boot when eSATA is connected and safe mode screen debut output is enabled. After clearing screen, system freezes.

<My PC>
Motherboard: ASUS N4L-VM DH
CPU: Intel Core Duo T2500 (2GHz)
Memory: 2GB
eSATA port: JMicron Technology JMB363
eSATA HDD:
+ RAID box (Corega CG-HDC4EU3500)
+ Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 (1TB)x3, RAID5 = 2TB
+ GPT (not MBR)

Can you recheck this with a recent Haiku build?

Improved!

<Time between 4th splash icon and 5th>

Previous

With eSATA: 2 minutes

Current

With eSATA: 17 seconds Without eSATA: 4 seconds

Still slow than without eSATA. But it may be by GPT?

No boot failure, it is only slow.
