#5246 closed enhancement (invalid)

Should be possible to see origin of files sent to trash

Description

It would be nice to have a menu option (or perhaps a display in Get Info) that would show the original location of a file now in the Trash, so the user could know the effect a Restore would have.

There's already the attribute "Original name" showing path+filename. Maybe this attribute column should be activated by default. I'm not sure a special case for the "Get info" panel is needed, as the info is probably most useful when looking at the file list.

However, I'd prefer this attribute to be named "Original location" and, similar to the "Location" attribute, to only hold the file's path.

I agree with humdinger about the naming. In any case, though, this ticket is invalid, as the feature is already there.

Keep in mind that Tracker may have had to change the name when moving an item to the trash, if an item with the same name already existed in the trash. That's why it works as it does now, although I think neither "Original name" nor "Original location" are a perfect fit.

Right. Forgot about that.
Maybe call it simply "Origin". That avoids both "name" and "location" :)

OK. I didn't know about that attribute. So it might be useful to mention it somewhere -- like in the User's Guide... (:-/)

I also think Humdinger's suggestion that it be activated by default is a good one. (For me, I think it's more likely to be useful in the Trash than either 'Size' or 'Modified'.)
