This happens because the transition to content types that do not use the dreaded Category module was never completed. Ideally, to avoid this, old news items would have to be migrated to the new News content type; but since this is not likely to happen soon, as a stopgap measure I have created a Drupal view that replaces the previus page with one showing all news posts. At least on the surface, you can consider this to be fixed.
