Wait... done as the files have been moved over. Not done since the scripts need updated :-)
https is fine for download.haiku-os.org

Should we use github.com/haiku/firmware for this? I wanted to move the files there but I apparently don't have commit access to that repo.

Some of the firmwares we are not even allowed to extract, and others have strict terms about distribution, so check the licenses carefully before doing so.

I'm talking about things that are already hosted at haiku-files, I assume things were done correctly there.

Never assume ;-)
Unknowns
- b43's original source location:
- Unknown license. Likely ok
- From openwrt: http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o
- This appears to be a "wrapper" someone wrote which firmware cutter places the "un-redistributable" broadcom firmware over.
- Was pointed to https://metadata.ftp-master.debian.org/changelogs//non-free/b/broadcom-sta/broadcom-sta_6.30.223.271-14~bpo10+1_copyright by the openwrt folks. I can't confirm if that covers the wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o file above however.
- marvell's original source location:
- This is questionable and makes me a bit uneasy.
- malo-firmware-1.4.tgz unknown, but openbsd appears to be source per https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=193588
- Maintainer: Marcus Glocker <mglocker@…>
- WWW: http://www.nazgul.ch/malo/
- This sounds bad: https://www.freshports.org/net/malo-firmware-kmod/pkg-plist
Knowns
- Intel's original source location:
- ipw2100-fw-1.3.tgz fedora + openbsd redistribs it.
- as-is, only intel hardware, no reverse engineer. Can redistrib.
- ipw2200-fw-3.1.tgz fedora + openbsd redistribs it.
- as-is, only intel hardware, no reverse engineer. Can redistrib.
- ipw2100-fw-1.3.tgz fedora + openbsd redistribs it.
- realtek
- urtwn-firmware-1.1p0-2.tgz - Realtek "as-is with copyright"

Firmwares moved to github in hrev54488. Closing the ticket but indeed the marvell firmware situation is not great.
Done.
