Description
Can't load Haiku on a pc with Ati Radeon 9200
this are a hrev21337.
after the boot screen, all I see are blue background with a 2 cm white black doted line on the top of the screen. (same as with #1169 and #1170)
the outbut are the 15-pin D-sub and not the white DVI
So what hardware do other boot Haiku on?
I'm using. Motherboard Biostar P4M80-M4 (via p4m800 and via vt8237) P4 celeron 2,1 ghz ATI Radeon 9200 128 mb 512 MR ram

Replying to axeld:
I do have a Radeon 9200 that works fine in Haiku. Is that white black "doted" line by any chance the kernel debugger?
Can be, can't see anything as the top “border” looks like vanilla ice-cream with chocked sprinkles :)
If so, your system crashed for whatever reason. Can you give some more info? Like:
So I have 3 different system and all shows me the same behavior.. I don't think Hiku likes me :(
- the exact model of the graphics card
Will do that when I get home from work, Do you need that for ticket #1169 and #1170 as well?
- a screen shot (if you have a digital camera)
Will do that, will update #1169 and #1170 as well
- have you compiled Haiku yourself?
No, haven’t find time to learn how to :)
In BeOS you could attach a pc on the DE-9, would that be possible on Haiku? Are this possible to connect BeOS with Haiku like that and are the BeTips how to accurate? http://www.betips.net/chunga.php?id=659

It's possible to use a null modem serial cable to capture system debugging output. Make sure you connect the first serial port of the Haiku machine to any serial port on the other machine.
The other machine should be set to 115200 Baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no flow control. This is what Haiku uses, AFAIK. In BeOS you would use SerialConnect, and menu option "Connect Directly" to the port where the serial cable is connected. In Windows I think it's called the HyperTerminal, but I'm not sure on that.
The BeTips are about BeOS, so they may sometimes be wrong for Haiku.

ok the card are a ABIT R9200SE-DT
a serial debugg output have to wait (don't have a cable)

Have you tried "safe video mode"? Right after the HAIKU logo on the black screen shows up press the spacebar, then try select safe video mode option and see if that lets you boot the rest of the way.

Might as well file this in my pile of random radeon bugs. Although it's hard to say if this one is even radeon related? If the original reporter doesn't update us in the next couple of months I shall close it.

Is this compiled with gcc4? I know Rene has been having problems with the Radeon driver on his gcc4 builds.
I have a machine with a Radeon 9200 AGP (or 9250, can't remember) that I can also test on - but I haven't built Haiku on it in at least a month. I will report my results soon.

While I do indeed also have issues with the Radeon driver on gcc4 (while gcc2 works fine), I'm using a very different card (X800 / PCI Express) with a DVI monitor. Also, the symptoms sound very different, on mine I never get a display after the boot loader, the monitor starts switching in and out of power save mode when it'd normally hit the blue graphical display, which to me implies it's probably being sent an invalid signal of some form. I'm not really sure that bears any relation to this reported bug without further info.

Still an issue on nightlies? The new ATI/AMD video drivers are much better...

Radeon 9200 is legacy... I actually have one, but when i tried it some ~5 years back I think it worked.
I can try to dig it up and test it on one of my older machines. I think mine is AGP, but I can't remember.
Edit: Oh look...i already have a comment above :)

I have a machine with a Radeon 9200 here. I tested it with Haiku alpha 3 (wanted to try a recent nightly but that motherboard apparently can't boot from USB so I used my official alpha 3 CD). Radeon 9200 works just fine on this machine.
Closing the ticket, please reopen if there is still a problem.
