Not getting SMTP errors reported when emails fail to send

When trying to set up my migadu email with haiku's email system (using the settings here ​https://www.migadu.com/guides/index.html#generic-settings), I have successfully got my incoming mail working but my outgoing mail from haiku will not send. When I send a message using Mail, the window disappears as if the message has sent, however no message is sent and I also get no status window or other notification of an error, making it next to impossible to figure out what is incorrect in my email configuration.
