Description
The ESC/P-R library is the development kit for the ESC/P-R printer driver, which includes all the source code, and print sample applications. With the kit, developers only need to create one driver in order to connect and communicate with any Epson inkjet printer that supports ESC/P-R.

I saw this and followed it here. I will try making a few calls today. Likely someone with a hiaku email adress will need to apply for it. I can't see why they wouldn't allow for a closed freeware driver. allowing for source code might be a bit different. While not genrally in the spirit of opensource, a driver is better then no driver. That siad I'll see what info I can wrangle.

forwarding contact Information to Laplane. I got ahold of the gentlemen in charge of open source development. He fondly remebers the BEOS and will be investigating Haiku. He did offer a commitments of assistance that may go well beyond the ESC/P-R standard.
Laplane you have a PM.

If nobody applies for the CUPS bounty (http://haikuware.com/bounties) I'm sure that the community would see this as the next best thing. Having a whole manufacturer's line of printer support under Haiku would be ideal.

The very friendly contact person at Epson pointed me to ESC/P-R library http://avasys.jp/eng/linux_driver/download/lsb/epson-inkjet/escpr/ and GutenPrint http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/ which also supports Epson printers.
The contact person at Epson can be reached at: http://www.epsondevelopers.com/home/contact
There are now two options:
1) Use ESC/P-R to create a Haiku printer driver
2) Port CUPS and GutenPrint to support a bunch of different printers

or create a modular driver support plugin design. implement the portions of cups that make sense and use a modular plugin design.
really how many parrellel port printers are left to bother supporting ?

You have to sign a NDA to get access to the library.
Can you research if the information/library provided by Epson can be used in an open source project where the printer driver will use the MIT License?
