Description
Ok, strange things happening here....
If I boot to live CD it will almost get done loading the desktop and will KDL. If I boot to the installer then use the task manager to "restart Desktop" I get a fully functional desktop. Right up until I kill the installer then I get KDL. If I leave the installer screen running it will work for a while and then KDL.
Installing to HD. I can setup the Hiaku partition, and start the installer. I get HD activity and CD activity. But nothing from the progress bar.... Waited about an hour, with constant activity from the CD and HD, then KDL

I have a usb. I remember that there is a way to write that info to a file onto the USB. But, I don't remeber how, or I could be crazy and thinking about something else. If you can tell me how to do that I will be more then happy to do it. And/Or I could try to take a picture. Would you want the KDL that comes when booting to the desktop or the one that happens when trying to run the installer or both?
Dave.

If you reboot immediately after the KDL without powering off, holding down shift at the very beginning of the boot process (i.e. before the Haiku logo appears) will bring you into the boot loader menu. In there, you will find a menu labelled Debug Options. If the in-memory log hasn't been overwritten already, that submenu will contain an item labelled "Save syslog from previous session", which is what you're looking for.

Preferably both if they differ. Assuming your keyboard works in KDL, please also include the output of the "bt" command.

Ok, update.
I tested today using a bootable USB and not the CD. It is working fine with that. I can tell you that I have used this same CD/DVD Rom (USB) a few days ago to install Ubuntu and it was fine. I have also installed Aroa and Syllable from this same CD/DVD Rom to this laptop without issue. Does this change what you need from me?
However, now I am getting "Hiku loader not found" when trying to boot from HD. On a side note. The USB install Partition is called "Haiku" and the partition I created on the HD is also called "haiku"
When I boot using the USB I can see the HD and mount it, and it appears to have all the files, but I just get "Haiku Loader Not Found" when trying to boot from it. Also, if I boot to the Boot Manger on the USB and do a "Search" for bootable devices it does not find it.

Ok, last update for this ticket. I have been able to install and boot from HD on this PC. I think that maybe the ticket for the CD/DVD rom issue may need to be a different ticket. Tell me what you would like for me to do.
Also, what would be the best way for me to get you what you need now that I have a working Haiku install on this laptop.

Assigning to mmlr since this seems to possibly be USB mass storage related.

More information....
now that I have a working Hakiu install. I have connected the usb drive and put in a CD. But Haiku does not see the CD. Tested CD/DVD rom by using AROS bootable CD and it does work. I can boot, up to a point, the Haiku Live CD. It seems that at some point during the boot process it looses the ability to see the CD Rom.
In "Drive Setup" I can see the CD/DVD Drive "/dev/disk/usb/0/0/raw" but File System, Volume Name, Mounted At, are all blank. It is giving me the size of the CD and is getting current information from the drive. I put in a number of different audio/video/data CDs and would go to "rescan" and the size would vary depending on what I had put in the drive. When the drive is empty it reads 0 bytes.

Please provide a syslog. It's impossible to tell what's going on without it. It could be similar to the issues kallisti5 was trying to fix regarding USB CD-ROMs.

I would be happy to. If you could tell me how to get what you need I will do it for you ASAP.
