#10842 closed bug (duplicate)

Screensaver prefences app crashes on openning with IFS previously selected

Reported by: HAL Owned by: korli
Priority: normal Milestone: R1
Component: Add-Ons/Screen Savers Version: R1/Development
Keywords: ScreenSaver IFS open Exception Cc: HAL

Platform: All

The screensaver preferences app crashes every time when IFS has been selected before. I am not certain if this happens with any other screensaver because I cannot select any others. It is a problem if you want to turn of the screensaver to stop interruptions watching a video, Unless there is a way to unselect IFS without openning the screensaver preferences. Maybe if screensaver settings can be changed using diskprobe. To reproduce:

  1. Open screensaverpreferences.
  2. Go to the screensavers tab
  3. Select IFS.
  4. Close screensaver preferences.
  5. Open screensaver preferences

Result: screensaver peferences with IFS crashes immediately. Always reproducible. I was testing with hrev47185 gcc4 hybrid.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change screensaver selection using discprobe?

I found how to change screensaver preferences using diskprobe. I changed the selected screensaver from IFS to blackness, now I can open screensaver preferences without any crash. I also found that reselecting IFS, closing screensaver preferences then reopenning does not produce the crash anymore for some reason. I will have to do sme more testing.

I found how it is reproduced every time: in steps to reproduce change step 5. Wait for IFS to run according to timer setting. 6. After it starts stop it with mouse or keyboad key. 7. Open screensaver preferences. Results in a crash.
