Description

I think we can harmonize typographically the view and give a structure to the information. I suggest the order:

  • Name
  • Version, Date
  • Copyright
  • Options
  • Written by
  • Based on

Thanks for engaging this layout jungle. I hope you find a way to prevent the constant resizing of the window when moving through the list of installed translators. Maybe the window can be allowed to get bigger when needed, but keep the max. width.
Would be nice to have the window resizable, at least vertically (and remember the settings (size and selected translator).

There are also redundant BBoxes when there are tab views (JPEG and JPEG2000).

The application icon at the bottom doesn't seem to have a purpose. While it brings a bit of colour to the panel, I think it should be removed.

Some Translators have icons, see DJVUTranslator.

It was used (in BeOS) to copy the translator to some other place: by dragging the icon you copied the translator file wherever you wanted.

@diver: oh, you're right. might be used someday to show an icon in some app when exporting in different file formats. So let's keep it I guess.

@jackburton: are you sure? what sense would it make to be able to move translators anywhere? you don't confuse it with queries, do you?

Nope. I have no idea why they did that, but it worked just like that. Something like the Menubar icon which represents the current folder in Tracker.

I would remove tabs from JPEG and JPEG2000 altogether. "About" tab is not really needed - it duplicates information from Info dialog, and there are not that much options that they wouldn't fit on one page.

I second that

Speaking of the order, I'd put an empty line after Name.

In hrev49095 in the windows icons translator, I have put a small space after the Name just for you ;-) Let me know what do you think. As always comments on the layout are welcome.

JPEG has a lot of settings I think the view will be very crowded. JPEG2000 settings are more manageable.

The line after the Name look strange to me, am I the only one?

You could make spacing between checkboxes smaller, like in GIF translator, then I believe all settings would fit into the view without stretching it too much.

As for the split between Read/Write options, you could use Media preflet's solution. (BTW what is the point of the title there? I can see what I've selected on the left.)

The GIF translator uses a BBox for each checkbox and the layout doesn't use the default spacing. Should be fixed.

I don't understand how the Media preflet's solution applies to the translator.

The configuration's view can be used outside the DataTranslation app.
