Thanks for reporting. Closing as invalid, but maybe Haiku should have an user-warning when thing go wrong this way. Windows has an info pop-up and an alert sound.

It turns out that the problem was not with Haiku, but with the cheap POS Made-in-China card reader. Please close the ticket as invalid. Thanks.
