Line input extremely touchy, makes it almost unusable

Accessing the line input more than once, even when assuring no other app is currently using it, is almost guaranteed to cause a line-in conflict that disables access to line-in audio. In some cases, even a first attempt to access line in, in SoundRecorder, is enough to prompt the conflict message, but usually it's a situation where an app has accessed it, closed its connection to line-input, and then the user chooses to open line input again. Serious problem for those who are trying to broadcast or record live audio. Only solution is to reboot...restarting media server doesn't seem to resolve it reliably.
