Updating to hrev51848 renders system unbootable

Description

Updated both x86_gcc2h and x86_64 from hrev51847 to hrev51848. Neither one will boot past the device icon on the boot splash. I'll attach syslog or serial log when available.

The change was reverted in hrev51849, I pressed the merge button too quickly on this change. Leaving the ticket open for now so we can follow-up on this and try to find a solution that works for you.
