#14066 closed bug (fixed)

Asus EEE PC 701 4G - black border on the right when using native video mode

Reported by: HonkXL Owned by: pulkomandy
Priority: normal Milestone: R1/beta2
Component: Drivers/Graphics/intel_extreme/9xx Version: R1/Development
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: All

Description

After the Haiku Splash screen the Asus EEE PC 701 4G just shows a black screen. Graphic only works in VESA-mode.

Maybe the problem is the unusual size of display: 800 x 480 px?

Graphic chip is Intel 915GML.

If there is any log or information I should provide to fix this bug, I would be happy to hear.

Not my bug orginially.

Same symptoms on two variants of eee pc (which share most of the same hardware).

Attached listdevs and syslog entries from unsuccessful boot.

When booting under VESA, there are no intel_extreme entries present in the syslog. (Also under VESA resolution is reduced to 640 x 480)

To narrow it down a little further, of the old nightlies available, the last one that works correctly on the eee pc was hrev49662, and it fails from hrev50327. Syslogs of both attached.

In the "bad" syslog:

1762	KERN: intel_extreme: dump_ports: No ports connected
1763	KERN: intel_extreme: Warning: zero active displays were found!

Then it seems it never gets to set the PLLs?

Please retest after hrev53040.

comment:8 by rrobgill, 5 years ago

Booting on hrev53043:

On first boot attempts to set resolution to 1024 x 768, resulting in truncation of display (first 640 x 480 of workspace occupies entire screen, tracker sits off-screen in default position, windows can be moved offscreen). Likewise if resolution is set greater than 640 x 480 manually.

If resolution set to less than 640 x 480, bottom of screen replaced with random data.

Something still going amiss with the graphics on the eee.

If set to 640 x 480 the screen appears to be 840 x 480, with the final pixel repeating across the final 200 pixels.

If set to 840 x 480 the right 200 pixels of the screen are blank (but the aspect ratio of what is displayed is correct).

Your syslog is not complete. Please include one with the data from the intel_extreme driver.

comment:13 by pulkomandy, 4 years ago

I have made some changes to the driver in hrev53702 which should help with this. Can you test them?

800 x 480 still showing black for the right hand 200 pixels.

Good news is that both 640 x 350 and 640 x 480 working correctly now.

Hi,

I think hrev53710 will fix this.

Unchanged after 53710. New syslog attached.

At 800 x 480 the section of the display that is showing appears to be scaled correctly. (IE The black region at the right hand side of the screen is in place of content, not beside it).

I'm out of ideas for this one for now. I think I'll need to get access to one such machine to experiment with it a bit.

Please try hrev53787 or later.

Replying to pulkomandy:

Please try hrev53787 or later.

Perfect!

All resolutions up to 800 x 480 (the hardware limit) now working fully. No scaling issues, no black overlay.
