Description
This is not really a bug. I just wanted to inform the Haiku devs that Python is dropping Beos specific code in the development version, see http://wiki.python.org/moin/Py3kDeprecated (and this is happening as I write this).
So this is, in a sense, a bug-prevention bug about checking if the development versions of Python could be compiled on Haiku :-)

Shouldn't this be closed? If anyone is interested in working on a python port here's the portlog page for it on haikuports: http://ports.haiku-files.org/wiki/dev-lang/python More eyes are welcome, as python is big and there's 2.5.2, 2.6.x and now 3.x, on both gcc2 and gcc4 that may need to be ported.

http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2009-January/085058.html Let's keep this one open for now. We'll start working on a python-2.7.x port to Haiku, clean the patches and see if they accept them. The door may be open to getting Haiku into the accepted ports list...

ok, Guido posted this to the list: http://mail.python.org/pipermail/python-dev/2009-January/085064.html So, for now we'll keep Haiku specific patches in the HaikuPorts svn for now (as we already have been doing). This ticket can be closed.

Ok, makes sense. Thanks for the update.
Well, I managed to get a (broken) python 2.5.2 compiled on gcc4 haiku the other day... I could take a wack at py3k.
