I have had ongoing problems with the Echo24 driver and sound dropouts, not just under 100% CPU. The audio "skips" periodically, as if it's being interrupted by disk and network IO. This problem occurs under BONE and Zeta, also.

Korli, I can test this any time - the problem is consistent on my machine across R5, BONE and Zeta when using this driver and the Haiku multi-audio driver.

Korli, this may be related to interrupt-sharing. I was able to eliminate the dropouts by making sure the card did not share an IRQ with any other device.

That sounds like it's a hardware problem, which we can't do much about, then.
