Description
There are quite a few driver settings files in the tree that would be useful for tweaking drivers. A search for ".settings" turned up these:
src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/ac97/auich/auich.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/echo/echo.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/emuxki/emuxki.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/ac97/es1370/es1370.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/hda/hda.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/ice1712/ice1712.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/graphics/matrox/matrox.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/graphics/neomagic/neomagic.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/graphics/nvidia/nvidia.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/network/rtl8169/rtl8169.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/network/sis900/sis900.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/ac97/sis7018/sis7018.settings.sample src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/graphics/skeleton/skel.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/network/usb_asix/usb_asix.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/audio/usb/usb_audio.settings src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/network/usb_davicom/usb_davicom.settings src/add-ons/kernel/busses/scsi/usb/usb_scsi.settings.sample src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/ports/usb_serial/usb_serial.settings.sample src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/video/usb_vision/usb_vision.settings.sample src/add-ons/kernel/drivers/graphics/via/via.settings
I propose putting them in a new folder ~/config/settings/kernel/drivers/examples so people confident in tweaking stuff can find them.
The drivers being able to load these settings files, it feels wrong to hide that fact. Just because it feels Linuxy, we shouldn't make it difficult for a user to potentially solve his driver issue.
Of course I would prefer a GUI solution, too, maybe in Devices plus in case of audio stuff in the Media prefs. But until that's implemented... settings files.
