Error when double-clicking OTF file

comment:1 by diver, 5 years ago

There is no built-in font viewer/installer. Tracker probably shouldn't handle it on it's own.

I do have FontBoy installed. I would have expected it to at least preview the font, and offer to install it.

comment:3 by diver, 5 years ago

Fontboy doesn't have any supported filetypes and it doesn't look like it supports opening font files directly. So Tracker can't find any app that handles font files and asks what to do.

I understand the technical reasons. Still, I think it would be good that when the user double-clicks an otf or ttf file, the system would at least show a message, telling the user where to put those files. If an application happens to be installed that handles those files more gracefully, then that application could "take over".

Having assigned something like hdialog --info "To install fonts, copy or move them to /system/non-packaged/data/fonts/". to ttf and otf would already be better than the current situation. (Should be translatable, though.)
