Description
I never used auto-raise feature of the Deskbar because it was always worked kinda wrong. With the recent fixes it works very intuitively and feels just right. So I think it make sense to make it the default.
While we're at it I think icon size could be made a bit larger as on almost all screenshots/videos people increase it. This will also make Deskbar icons more readable.

Yes, please! Would be several things less to configure after a clean install :-)

-1, the menu system is better and more Be-like than application expansion, at least to me. But +1 to making Autoraise the default.

I don't care about Be-like when it's unusable...
Anyway, we can have the expander visible and still not expand by default, so you can still use the menu.

Not sure what you mean by "unusable", I use it the "default" way as my standard mode.

The question is what default setting would be appreciated by the majority of users.
We could try a poll at the forums, if people use "Always on top", "Auto-raise" or "Auto-hide", and if the use the Expander and if they expand new apps, and what icon size they use. Maybe even "Tracker always first", at least a setting I always use...
All with the latest Deskbar version in a current nightly, of course.

I would prefer always on top Deskbar settings, but it is currently broken because of #15755.

IMHO, at least with "Auto-raise" we can go without voting as this is what virtually nobody used before and how nice this feature works now without getting in the way.
There is also a possibility of starting yet another bike-shed thread which could drain resources.

I’ll be the one dissenting voice here (what else is new, right?) and say that I do NOT think that auto-raise should be on by default. It’s a very nice option now but it’s an option, something the user should choose to enable. Clicking on Deskbar normally brings it forward plus zoomed apps avoid Deskbar by default. Turning on auto-raise changes this behavior. It’s ok if I’m outvoted here, but that’s my opinion.

There is not much to bikeshed about here, since it's about preferences and we're keeping the settings, just changing the defaults. Let's have a vote as humdinger said, the forum makes this much more comfortable than doing it on the mailing list.

I created polls on what Deskbar settings people are using in the forum: What are your Deskbar settings? Polls!
I think we should also enable "show application expander" and maybe even "expand new applications" by default?
