hrev54047 Steps to reproduce:
1 Ajust 512MiB memory limit in VirtualBox and four cores
2 Run LiveCD and install haiku to virtual serial drive
3 After installation reboot to installed Haiku
Sometimes there is no network.

Actually the known issue is in VirtualBox; this driver works just fine on bare metal and in VMware. They even closed a ticket as "fixed" by just setting the default NIC for FreeBSD guests to e1000: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/1067
They claim the issue was fixed in SVN a year ago, but I haven't seen that in new releases. At any rate, this is definitely not a bug in Haiku.
This is a known issue in pcnet driver. You need to change you NIC in VBox to Intel Pro 1000.
