#16208 new bug

Missing icons/kind from new/downloaded files.

Reported by: Zenithium Owned by: nobody
Priority: normal Milestone: Unscheduled
Component: - General Version: R1/Development
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: All

Description (last modified by Zenithium)

Description:
New files do not have icons or kinds, I was told this has something to do with missing MIME types and that this doesn't occur on 32x systems.

In Tracker, the file appears as "Generic file". This issue affects the desktop and other file explorers if present.

This issue dissapears when the file is interacted with.

Example when downloading with Web+ (random affected image file): https://wallpaperaccess.com/download/abstract-space-388238

How to reproduce:

  • Create a file (e.g. from the Terminal) or download with Web+

Can't reproduce with hrev54282, 32bit. Downloading the above images with Web+, the file is correctly typed. Saving something from StyledEdit also results in a typed text file. Saving or drag&drop from ShowImage: same.

How do you download your files? Web+ is a well-behaving native app and takes care of setting the MIME type for files it creates. Other (ported, probably) browsers and command-line apps may not do so. Then Tracker does its best to fix things by guessing the type from the file contents, when you first open the file.

I use either Web+ or Otter Browser, same issue affects both. Forgot to mentioned that this also happens when I copy files to somewhere.
