Description (last modified by )
I'm running R1/beta2 x86 gcc2 on bare metal. This laptop has a 32 bit atom processor. Whenever I give the shutdown or restart command, the apps and processes are closed, the screen goes black, but I need to force shutdown the pc, then power on to boot again.

Hey, I also have an acer aspire one, that name was given severall times (mine happens to be a 64bit machine) , maybe you can be a bit more specific?
I think this ticket is related https://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/5064

It is most likely that older ACPI implementations needs shutdown on CPU 0. (We used that for a while, but it caused lock ups on modern hardware. I prioritized to make sure modern hardware worked at the time.
Since there has been fixes for locking we probably should have a quirk for these older machines and see if it improves the situation. Modern hardware shouldn't need it so I don't think it should be a default. It will be very far down a long TODO-list, so help wanted..

Hmm, i have a stuck shutdown on one machine that only has one cpu core, so that wouldn't be the only issue presumeably (it does not happen every time though)

That is likely another issue, and often it is a process not shutting down. See if you can go into Kernel Debugger, and report threads in a new ticket.

for what it!s worth, I found that if I initiate the shutdown sequence by pressing the power button, the screen remains hanging on the background color with no background image. Btw I also see this as a low priority issue. As for the model of this specific laptop, It's an aspire one AOA 110 aka ZG5 with a 32 bit 2 core Atom processor @1.60 GHz, 1.5GB of ram, and original 8GB SSD Thank you all for responding, not trying to elevate the issue, just wanted devs to be aware of it.
