#16352 closed bug (not reproducible)

Beta 2 + 115 startup hangs in 32-bit color mode

Description

In order to get Beta 2 to boot on my bare-metal system, I needed to check safe mode video, so I edited /boot/home/config/settings/kernel/drivers/kernel to enable fail_safe_video_mode true.

This no longer works after update 115, so now I have to switch to a 16-bit videomode in order to be able to boot. Once Tracker starts, it switches to 32 bit without problem.

This is very strange. Is it also a problem under a nightly?

At what stage it hangs? What is visible on screen?

I haven't tried Nightlies anymore, I'm running both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Beta2 on physical hardware.

It hangs before showing the Haiku logo and the startup icons lighting up. I get a black screen, but the monitor keeps its sync. Usually when booting fails, the monitor looses sync and the powerindicator turns yellow. In this case it stays green meaning it still receives some signal but Haiku doesn't start. Setting the videomode to 16-bit color solves the issue even though Tracker can be set to 32 bit right afterwards.

Updated to Beta2 + 116 today, and this issue had disappeared when restarting. So from my end, this issue can now be closed.
