#16641 new bug

Icons on desktop are stuck

Reported by: smashIt Owned by: stippi
Priority: normal Milestone: Unscheduled
Component: User Interface Version: R1/beta2
Keywords: Icon desktop stuck Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: x86-64

Description

I don't know when it started, but today I noticed, that I can't move any icons on the desktop. I can still open them with a double-click. Clean Up does nothing to the arrangement (even though 2 icons overlap).

I use hrev54756 X86_64 on my Thinkpad T420.

I checked on hrev54758 64 bits, I can still move mines and clean up works as expected.

If you have few old states, it may be interesting to try some to see when it started.

Update! The Thinkpad has 2 rows of mouse-buttons. One above, and one below the trackpad. With the buttons above the trackpad I can not drag the icons. with the buttons below the trackpad I can.

As for clean up: Once I moved one of the overlapping icons it works again. My guess is it doesn't recognice overlapping icons when they are both already aligned with the grid.

I guess we should close this then and open another ticket for mouse buttons.

The mouse buttons

--> ABOVE the trackpad/touchpad -- belongs to the TRACKPOINT - mouse pointer - device.

If you want to drag/operate the icons with that(those) mouse button(s), then use the tracpoint device -- settled in the keyboard, among the regular letter buttons. It's joystick-like one, which ends in generally a circle rubber -- among the letter buttons, possibly centrally above those mouse buttons.

Then you will experience that icons no more "stuck" on the desktop. You just used the wrong pointer device with those mouse buttons.

--> BELOW the trackpad/touchpad -- belongs to the trackpad/touchpad device.

This way worked for you when used together with the trackpad/touchpad device.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
