Description

Good day,

Companion to this forum topic:
https://discuss.haiku-os.org/t/general-system-failure/10957

[hrev552O6 x64]
System starts to behave badly after a while. Boots normally, everything seems fine. Then strange things start to happen:

  • Files, disks, symlinks start to disappear from Tracker
  • Terminal does not recognize any commands
  • Files can't be opened nor saved
  • Any app that wasn't already running can't be launched
  • App launch crash won't save a debug report
  • Rendering issues on screen

Added are the syslog and syslog.old files.

Later will add some pics from phone.

Regards,
RR

More info:

The disk is an External USB case with SSD drive Kingston A4OO 24O GB. The case is presumably UASP, in order to increase the performance of the drive.
Drive is connected to the box through USB 3.1 port.
Drive is partitioned as follows:

  • partition1: efiboot [FAT32 holds the EFI boot folder]
  • partition2: Andromeda [BeFS, Haiku clean install]

I use this drive on two boxes, both with Ryzen processors and similar setups, but screen size.

I had a third partition before to hold 'testing data' [
efiboothaiku osgithub projects]

but due to the amount of issues I had, I reinitialized the drive to the setup stated above. Looks like the issue has nothing to do with the partition map.

Let me know any other info needed.

Regards,
RR

This appears to be a duplicate of #15569: the USB disk is unmounted due to large transfers being attempted.

On hrev55441 or later, this problem should be mostly gone. Please do test and see if it is, though.
