I prefer the deskbar mini-mode to the default mode but I'd like to see a new option added to Deskbar preferences "Show deskbar button per application (in mini mode)" or something like that so I don't have to open the drop down to find my window.
It would essentially be a non-compact horizontal version of the default deskbar which allows you to switch between windows faster using the mouse than having to open the drop down but without consuming all of the space the default config occupies.

The expando mode setting could theoretically be made to apply to mini-mode as well but you’d have to always expand because you couldn’t toggle inside a submenu.
