Sounds like corrupt or non-standard video files. If you have a small sample, you may want to upload it for testing. I sometimes encounter these kind of videos clips, too.
Since most videos work fine, I suppose this should rather be an enhancement ticket for MediaPlayer (or ffmpeg) to be more error tolerant?

I've also seen that happen on few files. At this time, I put that on the fact they may be incorrectly downloaded.
There's a workaround but you have to do it every time you want to watch the video. IIRC, track position is stored as an attribute. If you remove it, you can watch the vid from beginning.

This happens to almost all media I have on my computer, I think it isn't a symptom of broken or corrupt files. If you open a file with the end position MediaPlayer seems to start at the last keyframe and then continuos to the end, at which point you can't get it to play again. (Or if you had repeat audio on it will loop only the audio, not the video and all controls are busted so you can't get the audio to stop without quiting the application)
If you open the file and immidiently pause you can skip back to the start, this also seems to work as a workaround.
