Possible bootloader to kernel transition problem

Description

Bug

Possible "bootloader to kernel transition problem". Both beta4 and post-b4 hrev56769 after EFI loader the Haiku logo shows up but the icons below remain gray for a few seconds and after that the pc reboots. Tested with safe boot options enabled and disabled.

Because the step where this problem occurs, is not possible to get a syslog at all. I can try to take screenshots of EFI boot manager log if that's useful.

Environment

System

Systems so far tested:

  • Haiku R1b4 ISO
  • Haiku post b4 Nightly hrev56769

Hardware

Desktop PC:

You mentioned earlier that behavior is different on beta4, that you get a "512GB RAM" error. What happens when you enable the 4GB Memory Limit with the beta4 bootloader, does it still show the icons in gray and then reboot?

The older efi bootloader (I'm not 100% sure if it's from latest update of beta 4) throws me the "512GB RAM" error, even after I enabled the 4GB memory limit.

With the newer efi loader from hrev56769 I don't get that error, but whether using or not 4GB Memory limit, it shows Haiku logo and the gray icons and after that it reboots.

Can you test with a build before hrev56692, but on or greater than hrev56643? I see a build of nightly hrev56691 is available on download.haiku-os.org, please test with that.

Tested hrev56691 and it's almost the same situation that happens with 56769, but it reboots faster after the Haiku logo. Tested with and without safe boot options.

Sounds similar to #18262?.

Sounds similar to #17515?.

I tested the efibootmgr trick mentioned there and it worked. That allowed me to install Haiku (nightly post beta 4) from usb stick. Once installed, that step is no longer needed and I can boot through GRUB. This could mean that this is probably the same problem and therefore this ticket would also be a duplicate of #17515, considering that the hardware setup is similar (gigabyte board and amd ryzen cpu) but in my case a generation newer. I don't know how the hardware differences among these two platforms change the way this problem unfolds though.

But the issue here is that the problem is still there and it could be troublesome if a non-advanced user with a similar hardware setup doesn't have Linux preinstalled to do this workaround and would be stuck with a seemingly non-functional usb installer.
