I updated the uid and gid of the repository to match the root user that is running the command, and I will kick off a manual sync.

This is caused by an update to git which introduced the new safe.directory option to fix a security issue. This is not backwards compatible but was nonetheless included in Debian (where I hit the same issue in a work project) and possibly other distros as well.
