#18861 new bug

Cannot get latest image to boot

Reported by: mattl Owned by: nobody

Description

Trying to install Haiku :)

Downloaded the latest image <http://mirror.rit.edu/haiku/r1beta4/haiku-r1beta4-x86_64-anyboot.iso> and booting it on my UEFI system.

It hangs at the boot screen. Holding space and turning on safe mode causes a reboot.

I'm very happy to try anything.

A lot of people are very keen to see me try Haiku. https://social.coop/@mattl/112158655675850888

What does "hang at the boot screen" mean? Do any icons light up? When you turn on safe mode, where does it reboot?

Nothing lights up.

Safe mode shows the boot screen (nothing lights up still) and then reboots after a second.

Can you try launching the loader from an EFI shell? There are some other tickets that indicate this makes things somehow work.

I'm not 100% sure that I have an EFI shell. This machine has no other operating system on it.

I have installed Ubuntu 22.04 LTS Server on the machine if that helps get an EFI Shell present.

It does not. The EFI Shell is an EFI application. Some EFI BIOSes have it built in. If yours doesn't, you can get a binary from the Tianocore EDK2 archive: https://github.com/tianocore/edk2-archive/tree/master/ShellBinPkg/UefiShell

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
