#19028 new bug

Crash on MSI U180 netbook, Intel Atom N2600

Reported by: marzzbar Owned by: nobody
Priority: normal Milestone: Unscheduled
Component: - General Version: R1/beta5
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: x86

Description

I've been trying to run and install 32-bit Haiku on an old MSI Wind U180 netbook, but after booting up the image it seems to crash at a random time each time, usually within a minute or two. Sometimes it crashes just as the starting icons are lit up, sometimes it makes it to the desktop but then crashes after a small amount of time. I tried fiddling with boot options but it doesn't seem to do much. I was able to get syslogs from a couple of sessions where it crashed. I also managed to quickly get a dump of listdev before it crashed. I've attached these to the ticket. I was attempting to boot with the beta5 test candidate 1, but I was experiencing the same issue with R1/beta4.

What do you mean by "crash"? Do you get a KDL message?

comment:2 by marzzbar, 4 months ago

Apologies - I forgot that detail. It just freezes completely, no KDL message shown. I tried to enter KDL manually using Alt-SysReq-D but it doesn't show up. I'm able to enter KDL in the brief time period where it boots to desktop, but there's no message of note in there, and typing "continue" just lets it run until it freezes up again.

I found some circumstances where KDL itself could lock up while testing things before beta5. After the release I'll try to look into fixing those which may help you debug, we'll see.

I would recommend testing with SMP disabled, though, and see if this helps at all.

Thanks for that suggestion, it works with SMP disabled.
