#19262 new bug

KDL PANIC (insert page X into cache Y page cache is set to Z) on UEFI boot with safe mode

Reported by: roiredxsoto Owned by: nobody
Priority: normal Milestone: Unscheduled
Component: System/Kernel Version: R1/Development

Platform: All

Description

Good day,

Using a USB pendrive (USB 3.0 pendrive connected to the USB 3.0 port) to boot Bare Metal using UEFI only mode does not boot the hardware:

Ryzen 7 5700G on Gigabyte Aorus Pro Wifi B450i ITX motherboard with BIOS F66d.

From hrev58291 to hrev58340 as well as the Beta5, there is no chance to boot nor to get anything/info out of the boot process, whether booting in normal mode or safe mode.

With hrev58344 and hrev58352, normal mode doesn't boot at all (same as prior hrevs) though selecting all safe mode options results in KDL:

PANIC insert page X into cache Y: page cache is set to Z.

KDL is not recoverable, no keyboard input available, needing hard reset.

Reproduce: Any time boot the Bare Metal with those two hrevs.

It's an improvement over prior hrevs, as at least I can get the KDL screen.

Attached is a picture of the KDL screen.

Regards, RR

Good day,

Right now I'm running:

Haiku shredder 1 hrev58477 Dec 29 2024 07:15:46 x86_64 x86_64 Haiku

This happens booting from internal SATA disk.

1- Setting BIOS in UEFI mode only:

  • normal boot does not boot at all, always reboots
  • safe mode boot always produces the KDL

2- Setting BIOS in CSM mode:

  • normal boot UEFI drive does not boot at all, always reboots
  • safe mode boot UEFI drive always goes to KDL
  • normal boot BIOS drive succeeds to boot into Desktop (wrong display resolution)

By UEFI/BIOS drive I mean that the BIOS tries to boot the drive in UEFI mode when boot drive with the UEFI OS label is selected, and in BIOS mode when the boot drive without the UEFI OS label is selected. The drive is the same though it appears twice in the boot selection prompt.

By the way, the 'EFIBOOT' partition still appears as lowercase at the 'mount' option on the Desktop and DriveSetup software drive's list window. It has the proper label, Upper Case EFIBOOT, in the partition parameters though. Which is quite odd.

Regards, RR

KDL PANIC with Safe Graphics

Still with the hrev58543 have the issues. Normal mode boot produces constant reboot. Booting with Safe Graphics produces KDL attached. Booting in Safe Mode and Safe Graphics produces KDL attached.

EFIBOOT partition is correctly created from the Haiku Drive Setup. It gets 'efiboot' name on Haiku, though appears as 'EFIBOOT' on Linux.

I'm starting to think is related to this Gigabyte mobo and its BIOS.

Please check with hrev58549 or later.

Never mind, this seems to be a different issue.

Good day @diver,

Right now I moved to hrev58572. The issue is still there when booting UEFI. I've been testing the booting process with different safe mode options, and I'm getting this:

with any of these marked:

disable io-apic
disable local apic
disable x2apic
disable smep and smap
disable smp
disable apm

I get KDL non recoverable, I mean, I need to press the power button to get out of KDL restarting the computer.

With the rest of the safe mode options marked one by one, I get a reboot before any boot icon turns to coloured.

If I enable 'Enable on screen debug output' then I get reboot too.

I'll keep trying and reporting.

Thanks a lot for your time and effort.

Regards, RR
