Description
I just install Haiku on my laptop, an old Dell Latitude LS, it even works well, but i can see a black stripe on the screen, and when i play anything, this stripe get a lot of colors, each pixel one color :| that changes over the time, and only when playing a audio file. Note that when the workspace color appears on the screen i dont see the constant black stripe, it just shows later on boot process. Note too, that this machine works well on the FreeBSD, sound and video, but i
m not right about the sound on Linux(Ubuntu), the video behaves strangely sometimes, but is well most of time.
I belive that this problem is relative to the strange NeoMagic chips, in this machine they are, NM2200 [ MagicMedia 256AV Audio ], [ MagicGraph 256AV ] (Video).

I had this problem some time ago when testing opensound on my Dell Latitude CPiA. From discussing with Francois this is an issue of the memory layout in this chipset. Opensound is not written with the Haiku Neomagic driver in mind.

Can you try this again with a fresher build of Haiku? Also please attach the output of listdev to this ticket as it could be useful in tracking this done and fixing it.

I've also tried to use the latest nightly build of Haiku with a Dell Latitude LS. Video seems to work fine -- with the neomagic accelerant running fine, however audio has been tricky.

Haiku simply doesn't see the sound card. In OSS, the driver has been deprecated to reside in the attic folder -- even if symlinked and compiled back in -- OSS cannot detect the card.
The only working driver I've found that can see the sound card is http://www.haiku-files.org/files/optional-packages/OpenSound-x86-gcc2-2008-06-21.zip, but that results in a video glitch during playback with a stripe appearing across the screen with different colors inside -- and eventually freezes the system.
Drivers from around that date no longer compile with Haiku unfortunately, so it's hard to know whether it's an issue with the binary package.
