#3459 closed bug (fixed)

White box in top-left of screen

Reported by: osnr Owned by: axeld

Component: Drivers/Graphics/ati Version: R1/pre-alpha1

Description

There is a white box overlaying the top-left corner of my screen in Haiku. It only appears in Haiku and only appears when I am using the PCIID-patched rage128 driver from BeOS. It does not appear under vesa.

I am using a Pentium III (933-MHz) with the aforementioned Rage 128 card, PCI ID 5446. This problem occurs under rev 29227.

I did not have similar problems using the same driver under the same hardware in BeOS R5. The box does not seem to impair system functioning. It does not appear in any screenshots.

I have the same problem with Rage 128 Pro Ultra TF in my Dell Optiplex GX240. Everything working correctly, with the patched driver i can use 85 Hz refresh frequency, but there is the small (1,5 cm * 1,5 cm) white box.

My syslog told:

KERN: PCI: vendor 1002: ATI Technologies Inc KERN: PCI: device 5446: Rage 128 Pro Ultra TF

ping. It could be the hardware cursor, shown there and not used by Haiku. But since 6 years ago we did get hardware cursor support which may have solved this issue. Feedback would be nice from people still having that hardware.

hrev50533 x86_gcc2 I tested this same hardware on my old Athlon based system and the issue appears to have been resolved sometime in the past 8 years. See attached screenshot1.png

I briefly discussed this ticket with "Miqlas" (comment 1) on IRC. He no longer has this hardware, but agrees that the ticket can be closed.
