Description
I've a laptop here with an ESS Maestro III soundcard in it; it works under OSS - osstest plays perfect audio.
However with the OSS media addon I either get no sound at all; or more commonly no sound for the first period of time - timed at 28 seconds usually - followed by about 4 snatches of audio a second.
Tested using hrev29319 on a Dell Latitude C600 (1Ghz, 512MB RAM, not showing any noticeable system load when playing audio). Using the most recent OSS for Haiku off yellowbites.com and obviously the OSS media addon provided with the Haiku build revision.

Its off already actually... was advised that spitchy audio in general could be caused by it.

This is still apparent in hrev31035.
When playing, these two lines are repeated to the syslog constantly: KERN: osscore: Audio output doesn't drain (107520/103424 0). KERN: len=0/1024, total=4096
The numbers never change.
As an aside, I tried disabling syslog output to see if it would improve matters and I get no sound at all if its off...

This card appears to be unsupported in OSS 4.2 for Haiku, but is listed for *some* other operating systems. So currently it isn't functional at all.
osstest shows no cards, as expected if unsupported.
Sounds a little bit similar to #3356 (although not the same).
You could maybe try turning off kernel serial debug output to see if that helps.
