#4421 closed bug (fixed)

no vmx file included with vmware alpha images

Reported by: luroh Owned by: mmadia
Priority: normal Milestone: R1
Component: Build System Version: R1/alpha1
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: All

Description

Tested with http://haiku-files.org/releases/R1Alpha1/haiku-r1a1-rc-r32940-x86gcc2hybrid-vmdk.zip

Unlike with the previous nightlies, a vmx file is missing in the zip archive.

Build-O-Matic doesn't support adding additional files to the archive. For now, the front page of haiku-files.org links to the .vmx inside berlios, which is good enough for me.

Well, a problem with that is that the vmx file available at haiku-files.org requires additional hackery to work with our alpha vmdk images. Specifically, it requires the user to edit the ide0:0.fileName parameter to match that of the vmdk file, else a "File not found: haiku.vmdk" error popup will be displayed.

A possible workaround would be to change the name of the image from haiku-alpha.vmdk to haiku.vmdk.

Correction, the second sentence makes no sense, it should read:

Specifically, it requires the user to edit the ide0:0.fileName parameter value to match the name of the vmdk file, else a "File not found: haiku.vmdk" error popup will be displayed.

The vmx file is now also gone from haiku-files.org, it seems.

Resolution: fixed
Status: in-progressclosed

nightly vmware archives for hrev35765 and newer now contain:

  • haiku-nightly.vmdk
  • haiku-nighlty.vmx
  • blank-bfs-2048mb.vmdk

To note, revision 475 of Build-O-Matic branches/rewrite2 is the version that makes this possible. Also, the PHP on HaikuFiles.org will need to be updated to not display .* .
