#4454 closed bug (not reproducible)

System locks up when inserting (or trying to mount?) CD

Reported by: stippi Owned by: marcusoverhagen
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: Drivers/Disk/ATA Version: R1/pre-alpha1
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking: #4535
Platform: All

Description

With the recent changes to the ATA stack, I can now boot Haiku from a SATA drive (BIOS is configured to AHCI mode) without first disabling IDE DMA from the boot loader. The system appears to function normal. When I insert a CD into the IDE attached drive (Haiku says in DriveSetup that it's configured as master), the system locks up. I cannot tell whether I needed to try and mount the CD or if it locked up regardless. When I press the eject button on the drive, the system simply reboots.

I have the same Marvell 88SE6121 controller and cannot reproduce the problem at this time.

Please test enabling IDE boot ROM in the bios, and try to disable ACPI, too.

If the problem still persists, can you add a debug syslog (from the boot loader), please. I'm particularly interested in the triple fault.

Stephan, does this issue still occur?

I still have this computer with the same basic setup, but it's currently broken. Since I have another more powerful computer, I was simply using that one without investigating if it's the harddrive, the motherboard or maybe even the power supply which is broken. I do have a faint memory of using inserted some CD into the system in the meantime when it still worked (and not getting this bug), but I can't say for sure.

Milestone: R1/beta1Unscheduled

Leaving this open, but moving it to unscheduled as no one else has reported this same issue it's probably been fixed in the last 2 years? If you can confirm one way or another that would be nice.
