Description
I've started to compile a list of questions being asked on the #haiku irc channel since 2009-09-12. Most have been asked dozens of times. I believe that the general and dev FAQ's should be expanded to address some of the the following, even if it is to just add a link to already existing documentation on the site.
The following are only a few of the many questions asked:
Can I use Haiku as my primary Operating System? Is there an instant messenger client? Is there a package manager? Is there going to be one? How do I update my installation of Haiku? Is there an updater? Where can I get more software for Haiku? Are there any games for Haiku? Is there Java support. Is there Flash support? Is there a future release road map? When is the next release? Why use GCC2? Is there GCC4 support? How do I use the different GCC version. What graphic cards are supported? How do I get widescreen resolution on my monitor? VESA? How do I install to a USB stick? Now that I have Haiku on a USB disk, how do I install Haiku to my system? I have VirtualBox. Which image should I use? Can Haiku connect to the Internet? How come there is no sound? Why is there no network access in VirtualBox? Is there an office suite? What is Kernel Debugging Land? Why doesn't the 'tilda' key work properly? How do I change my keyboard layout? How do I know if I'm under VESA or native driver? Can vesa can do widescreen resolutions? Is there a list of working hardware? Is there python, ruby, perl? What is the status of wireless internet connections? does F12 not take me into KDL anymore? Is the live cd image of haiku going to be installable? Is there multiple monitor support? How much space is needed to build Haiku? Will Gobe Productive work in Haiku? Is there some kind of failsafe mode I can boot into? How do I get to it?

I have attached a stylededit file (zipped to not lose attributes) with answers to the questions. It also includes title of existing FAQ entries and some updates.
I have reordered the questions, to categorize them. I tried to go from more general to more specific, but grouping topics together (eg. all questions related to video drivers are together).
If this looks fine the HTML for the FAQ can be updated to include those.

Looks good to me. I can incorporate that into the existing FAQ. What do you think: Keep it all on one long page, or have the questions at the current location as an index page with the answers on separate pages according to Adrien's categories?

Wow. Thanks for compiling that list, they are all indeed good questions, and even I'm not sure of the answer for some of them.
My only worry would be that answering all of them will really make the FAQ huge, to the point that people won't want to read it, defeating the purpose.
Though a lot of them (maybe most) could be addressed with documentation improvements.
For example we could provide a list of all the software provided with the alpha to answer some of the questions about scripting languages and GCC.
Also we could have several FAQs, such as one for installation, one for hardware support, one for development, etc. That actually might be the best approach.
