#4898 closed bug (duplicate)

Video Overlay with Intel 4500MHD seems broken

Reported by: izomiac Owned by: nobody
Priority: low Milestone: R1
Component: Drivers/Graphics/intel_extreme Version: R1/Development
Keywords: Cc: brecht
Blocked By: #7662 Blocking: #9009
Platform: x86

Description

Attempting to play any video with "Hardware Video Overlay" enabled will not only not work (black screen with audio), but cause App Server to become glitchy enough that a hard reset is usually required. Specifically, it uses 100% CPU and is slow to respond to any user interaction, though it returns to ~0% CPU usage when idle.

This is on a GM45 chipset with an Intel 4500MHD graphics card.

Does that also happen for you, Brecht? In that case I could disable overlay for that chipset for the time being.

I am having the same problem on 82852/855gm intel graphics chipset as well. Solution was to remove the intel drivers. However my issue goes beyond the video overlay problem and also into the screen being offset downwerds about 50-60 pixels.

Overlay is also problematic on my system (Intel 915GM); maybe could be the case to disable it also for this graphic chipset? i know that is possible to disable it in MediaPlayer directly, but causes problems also with some game (eg Worms Armageddon), and is not possible to disable it in every application. If I blacklist the intel_extreme driver, obviously overlay is not present, but VESA doesn't le me change the screen resolution as I wish based on needs.
