Try to rename Home link on the Desktop with alt+e, then leave editiong mode with Esc, you should see white background under "Home" label. Now if you click on the desktop you will see that "Home" label have white border. Another method: Get info of Home link on the Desktop, then try to rename it with alt+e and then press Esc. You could erase white background by moving info window offscreen. Tested under vmware with hrev18486, but this bug is about 6 months old. Please yell if you need screenshots.

Yes, most probably. BTW, clicking on the desktop window triggers an invalidation and the textcontrol is filled correctly.

Found another problem: go to Home folder and press alt+n and then alt+n again, now press Esc and alt+a to select all files. "New Folder 2" will be only partialy selected. Is it related to this bug, of should i open another bug for this?
