Video not working for Intel82845G (possible regression?)

Description

I pulled out the old Dell Optiplex, this is the same PC I was using when I posted #1969. The video was fixed after hrev24826, but I now have to select fail safe video mode at set the video to 1024x768 at 16 colors, otherwise it boots to a blank/black screen. It would be nice if the default fail safe video mode could be set to 1024x768x16 or lower, so that low end hardware will at least boot up all the way. Not sure what revision caused the video on this PC to go out. It may just be the LCD screen that I have it connected to can't handle the mode it defaults to? A listdev is posted on #1969, if further info is needed just ask.

Some LCDS and VGA edid's don't get along at all. I have run into this before. Its not the driver, its that the card isn't happy about the edid info. Can you manually set the screen resolution in vesa ? Some of those older intel extreme cards and integrated chipsets don't recognize edid's outside of the specified ones in the video bios.

A different LCD and it now boots fine. Still would be nice to have a lower common denominator default video mode to allow more low end hardware to boot.
