Description

Inspired by Ticket #7517 (Wrong flag for Swedish):

Haiku uses "sv.catkeys" instead of "se.catkeys" for Swedish localization.

Usually, the language code for Sweden is SE. It's used for swedish domains (.se), as abbreviation for the swedish keymap layout in a number of operating systems, and even for the name of the Swedish localization mailing list ("haiku-i18n-se").

Is there any reason for using the abbreviation "sv" (usually associated with El Salvador) for the Swedish catkeys? Should we rename them to "se.catkeys" or should we leave everything as it is and regard this as one of the more amiable quirks of haiku?

You are mixing country codes (se) and language codes (sv).

Language codes are defined by the ISO 639 standard : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes Country codes are defined by ISO 3166 : http://www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/iso_3166_code_lists/english_country_names_and_code_elements.htm

They are different in many cases. Remember that some languages have different countries and some countries have multiple languages.

Yes, you are right. I forgot that Swedish is also one of the languages spoken in Finland, And so far, haiku doesn't differentiate between sv_SE and sv_FI. But then we need a different solution for #7517 - we can't show flags depending on chosen language.
