R1/alpha3 won't boot on Dell Latitude D400 due to Intel 855gm chipset
- Create USB stick from Anyboot image
- Boot it
Expected: Boot to desktop
Actual: Boot to the rocket icon, screen flashes once, system hangs.
Workaround: hold spacebar when the Haiku logo appears and boot with the safe graphics (vesa) mode set.
Additional info:
The intel extreme graphics 2 chipset (855gm) used in later Centrino platform laptops is a living hell on open source operating systems. I have had problems with this chipset on recent GNU/Linux distributions and FreeBSD. Linux bugs have to do with Kernel Mode Setting and/or DRI. Ubuntu bugs here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes and are worked around here: http://www.glasen-hardt.de/
