Haiku hangs at boot, video problem

Description

I have an Asus P5E3 motherboard with an XFX NVidia GeForce 8500 graphics card in a PCI-E x16 slot and a very old Matrox card in a PCI slot (I'm not sure of the product number, I'll get it as soon as I can).

I didn't plan to use the Matrox card under Haiku as I couldn't find any support for it, unsurprisingly given its age and peculiarity. Anyway, when I boot into Alpha 3, the system hangs on the rocket icon unless I use fail safe video mode. If I do this, the system often crashes eventually, normally when I change workspace. There have been times when the screen has gone black, and whilst the mouse responds, it only turns the black to white in blocks where it moves. I haven't been able to reproduce this yet after learning how to get a syslog. The most frequent crash whilst the system is up is when the app server drops into gdb, and I'm afraid I haven't a clue how to debug it from there so I can't give you any more information than another syslog.

I should mention that without the Matrox card, the problem goes away, but I did want to use it in Windows for some video editing/capturing.

Please try it with a recent nightly.

Is there any particular release that I should use?

Recently, the "nightlies" have been pretty stable, so I would recommend choosing your desired image type from the top of this list:

Sorry for the delay, had a LOT of stuff on followed by problems with XP. I've tried booting nightly 44067 GCC2H, problem seems to be the same. I've added the syslogs.

Syslogs under the nightly from Live CD.

By the way, the nightly had a resolution of 1600x1280 (I think thereabouts) available under the screen preferences. Alpha 3 only goes upto 1280x1024 on my 1920x1280 monitor.

So you can still reproduce freezes in a nightly image? Could you also reproduce it without nvidia card?
What you can try to do is to rename /system/add-ons/kernel/drivers/bin/matrox to matrox.disabled

Booted without the Matrox card on the nightly, seemed to work okay but the syslog went missing, so I'll post it when I next can. I tried without the NVidia card, but there was no output on the screen, so Im not even sure if Haiku booted. However disabling the Matrox driver seems to work with both cards installed on A3, without need for the fail-safe video. I've attached that syslog. I couldn't do this on the nightly as I need to sort out some of my partitions before installing it. Is there any way I can stop certain drivers from loading when booting from the CD?

That's not possible I'm afraid.
