accessing radeon_hd device locks system up

Description
Accessing the running /dev/graphics/radeon_hd* device will cause the machine to fully lock up. When you access /dev/graphics/radeon_hd* from the vesa driver, the radeon_hd fully loads and initializes the card as per the logs.
The same behaviour doesn't occur on the vesa device.
cat /dev/graphics/radeon_hd* is enough to make the machine halt.

Looks like the same bug applies to intel_extreme as well. Should be resolved as of hrev46725
