#11445 closed enhancement (fixed)

Network preferences: pretty name instead of path

Reported by: dsjonny Owned by: nobody
Priority: normal Milestone: R1/beta2
Component: Preferences/Network Version: R1/Development

Blocked By: Blocking:
Platform: All

Description

It would be more fiendly if in the adapter list there would be displayed the pretty name of the network adapter instead of the path. In the Devices application we can see the device's name for example. Please see the attached screenshot.

Using hrev48269 nightly anyboot.

There is no direct mapping from drivers to devices that the app can access. A driver may rely on multiple devices, possibly from different busses (PCI, USB, ???) or o device at all (in case of virtual interfaces).

I have already made a change to remove "/dev/net/" from the name, to restrict it to the more useful part of the path, I think this is enough. There is no space in the preflet for "82579LM Gigabit Ethernet Connection", and the icon already allows to know wether it is a wired or wireless interface, which is usually enough information to identify the device.
